Uganda's Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi has said that the current influx of thousands of Congolese refugees fleeing fighting in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is straining social services in western part of the country, local media reported here on Monday.

The Ugandan government should disclose evidence it claims to have against detained Kenyan human rights defender Al-Amin Kimathi or release him, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, Reprieve, and the East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders have demanded.

The World Health Organization (WHO) together with the Uganda Ministry of Health in Kampala on Friday delivered an assortment of medical supplies to Hoima regional referral hospital in mid-western Uganda following the confirmed outbreak of Meningitis that has so far killed 10 people while several others are admitted in isolation wards.

Uganda has been elected to the governing councils of specialised UNESCO agencies i.e. the International Bureau of Education (IBE), the Intergovernmental Council of the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) and the Intergovernmental Council of the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC), said a release APA received Friday in Kampala the capital city.
