According to the SABC, in a joint statement FIFA and Sony announced that R&B singer R. Kelly and the 27 member Soweto Spiritual Singers teamed up to sing the ballad. The song will be performed live during the opening ceremony on 11 June at Johannesburg’s Soccer City Stadium, the SABC report said.
This is one of three official compositions for the football spectacle that will be included on “Listen Up”, the official World Cup album for the 2010 tournament.
The other track that has been announced thus far is the official World Cup song, “Waka Waka”, featuring Shakira, the Columbian sexy siren.
More than 700 teenagers between the ages of 12 and 16 years have been selected as flag-bearers for the World Cup. They will carry the national flags of the nations participating in the competition.
The World Cup is scheduled to take place in South Africa from 11 June to July 11, for the first time that an African nation hosts the premier football event.
