Angola - Diplomacy

U.S. satisfied with relations with Angola

Visiting U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said here on Sunday that her country is satisfied with the bilateral relations with Angola.

In a press conference after talks with the Angolan delegation led by Angolan Foreign Minister Assuncao dos Anjos, Hillary Clinton told reporters that U.S. President Barack Obama is satisfied with the possibility of increasing the relations with Angola.

She said the two sides have debated various matters in a deep way, adding that the United States and Angola will work together to re-launch agriculture and improve national security to create continental stability in Africa and the world as well.

The top U.S. diplomat spoke highly of what the Angolan government has achieved since the end of decades long of civil war in 2002, saying that peace achievement after 27 years of armed conflict has provided Angola with opportunities to materialize the desires of its people and projects to reconstruct and develop the country.

She also said the prosperity of a country depends on good governance and in this field the United States is encouraged for the steps taken by the Angolan authorities.

She said she expects Angola's new constitution will be approved and the presidential elections will be held at due time.

According to the agenda, during her two-day visit to Angola, she will visit some local institutions and meet with Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos on Monday before she leaves Luanda to continue her Africa's seven-nation tour.

Hillary Clinton arrived in Angola on Sunday morning for a two-day visit to Angola, a return visit of Angolan Foreign Minister Dos Anjos who visited the United States in May during which the two sides signed a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) for the creation of a common forum to deal with commercial issues to strengthen existing commercial relations and investments between the two countries.
