Jean Ping expresses sympathy to blast-battered Republic of Congo

Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Jean Ping has expressed his sympathy to blast-hit Republic of Congo, an AU statement said on Monday.


The chairperson has learnt with sadness the news of the explosions in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, on March 4, following the fire that broke out in an arms and ammunition depot.

Ping has deplored the significant number of deaths and injuries caused by the explosions, according to the statement. He expressed his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved families, the people and the government of the Congo.

The Chairperson called on the member States and the international community to provide assistance to the Congolese government.

Huge blasts at a munitions depot in the capital on March 4 killed about 150 deaths and left over 1,500 injured, according to government authorities.
