One killed as grenade explodes near Kigali

At least one people was killed while two others were seriously injured Wednesday evening in Rwanda, after a grenade they mistook for treasure exploded in a garbage can at Jabana village, a suburb of Kigali city, police sources said here.


The victims including two young children aged between 12 and 14 who found the grenade thrown in a garbage and tried to open it, thinking it contained treasure, Rwanda's Police Spokesperson Theos Badege said.

In critical condition was one young child aged 10 whom the report said lost his arm in the explosion, Badege told Xinhua.

"Another young aged 12 man died on the spot after his hands and feet were blown away in the explosion", he added.

The Rwanda's police is still investigating to determine the exact cause of the accident, the report said.
