Madagascan gov't allocates 1.5 mln USD in support to electoral commission

Madagascar's transition government allocated 3 billions ariary (1.5 million U. S. dollars) to support the independent national election commission of the transition (Cenit), a statement from the Ministry of Finance and Budget said on Wednesday.


"To enable the Cenit to carry out its functions, the fund corresponds to the needs of this commission until the end of the year," the statement said.

Established in early March to replace the Independent national election commission (Ceni), the mission of the Cenit are includes preparation and organization of credible, fair and transparent elections in the shortest possible time in Madagascar.

The commission is currently establishing its branches in the 22 regions over the Indian Ocean island country.
